One word....Ridiculous.

Quoted----
As a matter of fact, we really wonder are we being penalised for heeding the call to have children sooner. As a first time parents, we would have lose out at least $4000 on the baby bonus ($1000 extra cash gift and another $3000 dollar to dollar matching).

All the above really make us wonder if Government is really sincere in all their talk and whether do they really walk their talk than just being NATO.
---
My comments - Govt is trying to encourage people who has not given birth to start ttc now. Those already preggy...too bad! With or without the incentive, this bunch of preggy ladies are already due for delivery anyway.

Quoted----
We do understand that there’s a need for a cut off date. For parents who have had their first child, you can tell them that they can’t turn back the clock. However, perhaps about 10,000 babies will be delivered from now to 31 December 2008. Don’t tell us that they are not contributing to the Singapore population???
----
My comments - are you trying to say that those born before any baby bonus incentive is implemented are not contributing to SG's population?

It is a case of too bad! We gain some we lose some. I wonder why people can get so worked up over such issues. i can only understand their wrath if majority of the people that signed up for this 'petition' are ftwm drawing a pay of less than $1500.

incentives are a bonus. fancy demanding that the govt to bend backwards...if the cut-off is 1 sept 08, then those borned before that are not contributing to the population also la! is it?

rosaltang
ya lor petition will not help in Singapore... once they set their minds alr... there is no turning back... sad to say
fishyhallo
if government were to change policy just because of a petition, den i think riots will come sooner or later.

mrslau
The last round when govt implemented the baby benefits, they also back date.
So there's still a chance they may back date too if we just put our names.
lonerjas
I don pin hope if sg govt anymore... just live to accept..

too disappointed the last round

Comment:
not at all. but the fact is that they announce it in Aug but only intend to implement it in Jan. this of course makes many ppl thot that the benefits will affect them and end up disappointed. this is very different from the aug 04 announcement where it was backdated to even before the date of announcement.

i know we win some we lose some. but they should announce it later if they intend to implement it later. I see no justifiable reason why they should announce it so early then. personally i feel the $1k extra + the $6k CDA + the one month extra martinity leave is worth fighting for even if my pay is above $1.5k. but perhaps you are one of the luckier few who may agree with the govt that even $600k is "peanuts". to that, kudos to you, but do rmb that not all of us are so fortunate.

no i certainly agree and respect that mothers of children born before 1st sept deserve every credit too, in fact i do hope that the aug 04 backdating will be repeated this round because that is what many had assumed would happen.

ultimately i really dunno if it will help but at the very least we could say we tried. my purpose of posting here is not to pull u all to another forum nor even to get u all to sign the petition. My purpose is just to let u know there is such a thing going on. anyway the petition was meant to pass to PM Lee during his meet the people's session this evening. I have no idea how it went but its over by now so i will wait for the followup. but seems that the letter has got the attention of some reporter. i just hope for the best, knowing I've done what I can to assist this cause.

peace. smile.gif

there will be nothing for sahm...cos they want women to work and they want babies. so they will only give incentives to ftwm.
my husband said that although they give childcare leave, some company will review that when reviewing your annual appraisal. if that already happens to dads, i think it will be more prominant for working mums.
dimension
congrats to all affected by the change in date =)
i know some of the petitioners came from this site so would just like to express my thanks beerchug.gif

btw, i believe the baby bonus is for sahm

why is there nothing for SAHM?

The cash gift applies both to working and non-working mums rite? The CDA co-saving programme oso applies regardless of whether you are working or non-working. The parenthood tax rebate can be claimed by the father if the mother does not need it. And there is the QCR as well which the father is eligible as well.

Working mothers get higher childcare subsidy bcos they need it. However, non-working mums still do get subsidised, only lesser. Husbands whose wives do not work get to claim wife relief.

Just because the govt does not have something that is tagged specially for SAHM, does not mean that you do not get anything at all. You still do benefit from the whole slew of new benefits rite?
