Anyone try weaning baby off pacifier by put chilli on it?

When can baby eat chilli? I am thinking mine probably addicted to pacifier already. Everyday 3pm will cry until I stuff the pacifier in.

Give water bottle also no use.

lol i wan put at her hand cause she always suck hand but dangerous scare she rub eyes with it..

no offense but i wouldnt wanna traumatise my ds with that tactic, even though im trying to wean him off pacifier (stuck from 2mths until now nearly 3yrs).

how old is ur baby oppsgal? chilli might upset an immature stomach. if ur baby is old enough to understand, try discussing/bargaining 1st. explain nicely that you will only provide during nap times. before that, out of sight, out of mind... distract when requested before nap times.

im not "stressing" my ds to totally give up pacifier at this time, but he acknowledges that it is embarrassing to be seen with it in front of his peers. and the last time i gave him a new pacifier, i told him to "trade" with his old ones (yes he has more than 1) and that it belongs to his baby brother/sister and whenever baby requests for it, he has to give in and return *smirk*. in return, baby will always "loan" to big brother during nap/sleep times. so far it works, if he misplaces it he will worry and even call me to ask if ive seen it. another 6mths before he has to give up pacifier to baby permanently!

i agree with hanni06. Why would you wanna create discomfort, shock and stress to ur baby by giving her chili? There are alot of ways to wean them off!

I wean off my DS when he was abt 2yrs old, when he is able to understand things. I made him threw it away himself, into the rubbish bin, of coz that nite and a few nites he will look for it but I reminded him that he has thrown it away and he is ok with it.

Oppsgal, why did ur baby cry for pacifier at 3pm daily? Is it becoz its her nap time? For babies if u give pacifier i feel that its difficult to forbid them this item coz its sort of like comfort sucking for them. Plus if u only give it to the baby during nap or bed times then they will look for it when they are feeling sleepy.

IMO, just let ur baby have the pacifier n wean it off when baby is older. Unless of coz u can endure her loud cries every time she wants to sleep, eventually she will fall asleep when she gets tired by crying n then sort of weaned off. But then again if u let her cry too much, wind will get in n thus leads to colic... haha~ so which one is better?

Lovelymum, sucking fingers n thumb are ok, so long u make sure her hands n fingers are clean biggrin.gif

1stly report you for child abuse
2ndly if you are worry about baby addicted to pacifier, why introduce it to baby.. doubt baby knows what a pacifier without some ppl introduce to them...

i thought u wanted to introduce chilli to ya child to eat la, cos pin now oso ask for chilli sauce(from mac those kind) when she eat fries.

why wanna use chilli huh, tts so horrible leh~ esp to such a young child!!
for pin, she is alr 2 yr plus still on pacifier, but i only give it to her when its her nap time, but she just suck awhile will auto spit it out.
there r other ways to wean baby off de la.
for me, i think slowly reduce the no. of time u give her the pacifier, n also the amount of time she is on it.
then later take it off her, n let her whine a few days then i guess she wud prob forget abt it.

Is there an urgency to wean the child off now? Like now?

If yes and if you really wanna use this method now, try vinegar instead.

i've tot of using chilli on pacifier (mum did tat to me sad.gif ) b4 but never really did it to phyli.

as i believe, once they r ready to be off pacifier, they will b ready... coz if by "force" (eg: using chilli on pacifier), they'll then start replacing it with they thumb or other "fingers"? and by then, u can't put chilli on "them" rite?

best is dun use all of the above lor, use coaxing, teaching, talking or otherwise wait till baby is older n can understand. Then make the baby stop using the pacifier himself.
mummy_wen
chilli = child abuse bleh.gif

why must think of doing that to poor baby? its just their source of comfort....unless it poses harm?!

my 17 months old recently started weaning herself off her thumb. she is using less of it now.. let them do it on their own pace..

How old is your bb? if ur bb is still under 12mths than there is no hurry to stop it and not in this manner too. My girl stop at 18mths.
Its quite simple to wean off....juz snip the tip of the pacifier and they will not enjoy the sucking anymore...encourgage your bb to throw it away into the bin...and the nxt time they request, jus says that it in the bin liao!
Well...it work for me.

My MIL really did it to my ah lao's bro. Rubbed chilli on his thumb to stop him.
But think he was quite big liao (maybe 4-5yo).

Not sure whether it's really true leh. Cos my DS also uses pacifier when he naps but his lower jaw is slightly more protruding wor, which they call it "hor dao" or something lah.

no lah...not true lah....

my DH's lower jaw is long too. but it's not the case with my ds leh...and ds used pacifier too...so what's the correlation?? whether you have this kind of features or not is dependent on your family genetic make-up.

Parents should always know what they are doing to their child(ren) & not just follow any trends blindly.

Provide only if necessary. And not provide just because 'everyone else is doing it' or just because pacifiers are available.

If you are afraid of slanted teeth, then don't provide in the first place. Babies will not know the existance of pacifiers until the moment we provide them with one.

For our case, we've been encouraging my girl to throw her pacifier away at the age of 2 and she self weaned due to embarassment. We did not jeer at her but instead told her nicely & repeatedly that big kids do not need the pacifier. That period of time, when she saw strangers - she will automatically take the pacifier out of her mouth.

We did not worry any bit about slanted teeth. Milk teeth will fall off sooner or later & regrow anyway.

She is now 4 & her set of teeth now, is like this. Good enough for us.

A classic example of a mummy passing all the pretty genes to her daughter......

ds does have a slight speech issue, gynae spotted when he pointed a fish on the wallpaper. mentioned it happens due to being used to speaking with a pacifier in mouth. we are correcting that by telling him nicely we don't understand him when talking with a pacifier and he will comply by repeating without it. again I am not overly concerned coz I used to lisp my "S" but self-corrected when teased in primary school.
